Discover Florida is a children's app for ages 8-12. This game teaches children about the local Florida environment while having fun. It's designed to resemble an 80's retro feeling while remaining modern, bright, and intriguing.
A big component in this app is the ability to document your findings and fillĀ up your journal and eventually collect them all. As the game progresses, you'll find more complicated species and harder questions.
Before you can collect each species, you must study flashcards to know the answers to the questions the you will get when discovering in the 3D game portion.
You can create and customize your own character to look like you or just be completely new and unique. I've made sure that this app makes everyone feel included and that they can have a character that resembles themselves.
When you come upon an animal or plant in the game, it will give you an exclamation point above them so you know you've found something new. Once you click on it, you will receive a question based on the flashcard section to test what you have learned. If you get it right, it goes to your journal. If you get it wrong, you have to go back to practicing flashcards and wait until you've found them again.
You can keep doing this until you have collected all of them.
This is the app demo video that you would see as a trailer/advertisement. I used "chip music" that typically is associated with 8-bit video games for the 80's feel and look I originally started with.
